WHAT WILL YOU LEARN AT XTADV?
Five days of motorcycle education. Skills for a lifetime of adventure.
Riding an adventure motorcycle off-road is a completely different discipline from riding on pavement.
Loose gravel, steep hills, tight turns, unpredictable traction, and challenging terrain demand a different understanding of motorcycle control.
At Traction eRag, we believe the solution isn't simply more riding experience.
It's better education.
XTADV is a five-day motorcycle cross-training experience designed to help adventure and dual-sport riders develop the fundamental skills that make off-road riding safer, more controlled, and more enjoyable.
We don't just show you what to do.
We teach you why it works, how to practise it, and when to use it.
WHO COMES TO XTADV?
Our participants are generally experienced motorcyclists who want to become better off-road riders.
Most are between 45 and 70 years old.
Some have spent decades riding motorcycles but have relatively little off-road experience. Others have already travelled extensively on adventure motorcycles and want to improve their technical abilities.
Some arrive confident. Others arrive apprehensive.
They share something important: a willingness to learn.
You don't need to be the fastest rider, the strongest rider, or the most adventurous person in the group.
You need to be curious, coachable, and prepared to challenge yourself.
THE TRACTION eRAG METHOD
The destination is fixed. The path isn't.
Most off-road motorcycle training clinics and camps teach some variation of the same fundamental skills: balance, body position, braking, cornering, traction management, and obstacle negotiation.
We're no different in that respect.
What makes Traction eRag different isn't what we teach. It's how we teach it.
Developed under the lifelong tutelage of elite sports coaches, the Traction eRag Method has been designed specifically for adult learners, with evidence-based adult learning principles underpinning everything we do.
We break complex skills into manageable steps, introduce challenges progressively, and create an environment where riders feel comfortable asking questions, making mistakes, and developing at their own pace.
Our instructors understand that confidence isn't something you can demand from a student. It's something you develop through understanding, repetition, encouragement, and success.
We don't measure our effectiveness by how difficult we can make an exercise. We measure it by how much our students learn.
The curriculum may look familiar. The learning experience is anything but.
WHAT WILL YOU LEARN AT XTADV?
Better balance. Better control. Better decisions.
Over five days, you'll develop the fundamental skills that make off-road adventure riding more controlled, predictable, and enjoyable.
Our progressive curriculum focuses on six essential areas:
Balance & Body Position — Learn to work with your motorcycle instead of fighting it.
Clutch, Throttle & Braking — Develop precise control over power, speed, and traction.
Cornering & Directional Control — Navigate tight turns, loose surfaces, and challenging terrain.
Hills & Descents — Build the technique and judgment to approach changing terrain confidently.
Energy Conservation — Competent riders never expend unnecessary energy, this theme runs throughout the week.
Practical Trail Integration — Bring everything together in real-world riding situations.
Every skill builds on the last. Through demonstrations, individual coaching, repetition, and practical exercises, you'll develop a deeper understanding of how motorcycles behave off-road.
We're not interested in teaching you tricks. We're interested in creating a skills foundation that lasts forever.

WHY WE TEACH ON LIGHTWEIGHT HONDA MOTORCYCLES
YOU CAN’T LEARN TO RIDE OFF-ROAD ON AN ADVENTURE MOTORCYCLE
Large adventure motorcycles are wonderful travelling companions.
But their weight, power, and cost can make them challenging platforms for learning unfamiliar off-road skills.
Pilots don’t learn to fly in Jumbo jets, they learn in Cessna’s.
That's why we teach on lightweight Honda off-road motorcycles.
A smaller motorcycle allows you to concentrate on balance, movement, and control without being overwhelmed by the size and weight of a large adventure bike.
You'll have the opportunity to practise unfamiliar techniques repeatedly, receive feedback, and make corrections.
Our objective is to help you develop transferable skills that you can take home to your own motorcycle.
We're not teaching you to ride a small dirt bike. We're using a small dirt bike to teach you how to become a better adventure rider.
SEEING IS UNDERSTANDING
Even our cameras have a teaching job.
At XTADV, we have a dedicated videographer in the field with us all day, every day.
Why? Because what a rider thinks they're doing and what they're actually doing can be two very different things.
Video gives our instructors another powerful teaching tool. By reviewing footage during the week, students can see their own body position, technique, and mistakes rather than relying entirely on verbal feedback.
It's one thing to be told what you're doing wrong. It's quite another to see it for yourself.
This is another example of how the Traction eRag Method goes beyond conventional motorcycle instruction. We've invested in video-assisted learning because we believe that seeing yourself ride can accelerate understanding and improvement.
How many motorcycle training camps have a dedicated videographer in the field every single day?
At Traction eRag, even our cameras teach.
“There’s no ‘pin-it’ talk; they want you to learn the basics like throttle control, clutch control, body positioning in a safe-but-still adventurous environment.
A lot of adventure bikes might push beyond their local Starbucks if their owners had built these skills the safe and proper way.”

“Shannon considers mistakes essential. Competence, he told us, comes from failing repeatedly, understanding what went wrong, and trying again. In pep talk after pep talk, he and his coaches asked us to picture the boundaries of our comfort zones, then aim just beyond their edges. They called the fears waiting there our dragons, and every rider had different ones to slay.”
WHAT WILL YOU TAKE HOME?
We want to live in your head.
Throughout your five days at XTADV, you'll hear our instructors repeat certain keywords over and over again. Each keyword represents a collection of concepts, techniques, and lessons that you've learned and practised throughout the week.
There's a very deliberate reason we teach this way.
We want to go home with you.
We want to be there on your next adventure, when you're approaching a difficult hill, negotiating a tight turn, or struggling to find your balance.
Those familiar keywords become mental cues, reminding you of everything you've learned without having to consciously recall an entire lesson.
Our goal isn't simply to make you a better rider during your five days at the ranch. It's to give you the tools to become your own coach, recognizing mistakes, making corrections, and continuing to develop your skills long after you've left us.
We want our voices in your head, helping you make better decisions every time you ride.
Five days of education. A lifetime of self-coaching.

LOCATION
The Traction eRag World Headquarters, nestled in the tree-covered hill tops 20 minutes away from the desert landscape of Kamloops, British Columbia.
You will be staying in either basic cabins or safari tents. You’ll be dry, comfortable and off the ground. Pillows and mattress provided, bring a sleeping bag — you’ll be ultra comfortable. The camp has flush toilets and hot showers with the best view in the world.
We are in a remote location, but this is Canada – a first-world country, with close access to world-class health care, transportation infrastructure and food safety. You will be spending your vacation on a dirt bike seat, not a toilet seat.
THERE IS A PLACE FOR YOU
We understand how intimidating riding with an unknown group can be. Don’t worry, you will find like-minded people at each shoulder. Nobody is a pro rider, we have designed these rides for people who want to have fun. Most folks who attend XTADV are between 45 to 70 years old, and most are solo travellers.
“I alway recommend people get training, and this is some of the best. Every morning your bike is ready to go, this amazing meal gets set down in front of you, you ride and come back and the bathrooms are clean – It’s like Disneyland.”
